Protecting your Family from Head Lice

The first thing you can do to help prevent catching head lice is to discuss
the subject openly. Lice are nothing to be ashamed of! They can affect
anyone, regardless of background or hygiene. And if everyone knows
what's going on, the risk is cut back by half.

If there is a head lice breakout in a school class, follow this advice:

Start using a preventative product on your family immediately, such as
Shield Shampoo & Conditioner in 1, or Leave In Spray. Shield is
formulated with a unique blend of natural oil extracts to repel lice,
including Citronella, Rosemary & Eucalyptus. Shield products are
gentle enough for everyday use and suitable for the entire family.

Treat an infested person straight away with anti-lice agents
(pediculicides) to eliminate the lice. Ask your school nurse or pharmacist
to recommend the best product. Some pediculicide treatments need to
be repeated after 7 to 10 days to ensure that all lice are eliminated.

Immediately inform everyone in direct contact (preschool, school, friends
and family) so that they can take the appropriate preventative measures.
Lice are nothing to be ashamed of! Talk about them!

Avoid close body contact during the treatment to avoid the head lice
transferring from head to head.

Check everyone who's had close contact with the infested person with a
nit comb for nits and lice. If you find infestation, treat them too.

Wash all bedding and clothes at 60°C. Non-washable items or textiles
(e.g. cuddly toys) can be stored in the freezer for at least 1 day at -15°C
to kill lice and nits.
